According to officials from the Karjat Government Railway Police (GRP), the altercation began over a seat inside the luggage compartment after the train had crossed Vangani railway station. What started as a verbal argument between the victim and a group of young men quickly escalated into a physical assault.
The victim, identified as Satish Pathak, a resident of Masjid Bandar in Mumbai, was first assaulted by the group. The confrontation then turned increasingly violent, culminating in one of the assailants stabbing him in the stomach with a knife. The grievously injured passenger is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Following the attack, the Karjat GRP launched an intensive investigation. Authorities examined CCTV footage and conducted multiple rounds of questioning to trace the culprits. Acting on initial leads and confidential information, police successfully arrested two suspects within hours.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Imran Idris Ansari, aged 18, and Karan Kanhaiyalal Agarwal, aged 22. Officials confirmed that both were taken into custody after coordinated police action based on intelligence inputs.
However, one of the accused initially managed to flee the scene. Police intensified their search operations and later succeeded in apprehending the third individual involved in the attack. The third accused is a minor and has been sent to a juvenile reform facility for further legal proceedings.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to determine the full sequence of events that led to the violent escalation inside the crowded suburban train, which is widely regarded as the backbone of Mumbai’s daily commute.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over passenger safety in Mumbai locals, especially during peak travel hours, highlighting the vulnerability of commuters in overcrowded compartments where minor disputes can rapidly spiral into life-threatening violence.
